At Least 6-8 MLB Owners Don't Want 2020 Season to Be Played

While MLB tries to figure out a way to start the 2020 season, it appears several team owners are already against that idea.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, at least six owners don't want a season at all. Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic reported that number could be even higher.

"There are definitely more than eight owners who don't want to play," one player agent said.

This comes after MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told ESPN on Monday night there is full support from the owners.

"The owners are 100 percent committed to getting baseball back on the field," Manfred said, via Jeff Passan of ESPN. "Unfortunately, I can't tell you that I'm 100 percent certain that's gonna happen."

Per Rosenthal and Drellich, the commissioner can implement a season with 75 percent support from owners, which requires 23 votes. This means eight opposed would be enough to prevent the season.

The season was initially delayed in March because of the coronavirus, but there was a plan to resume in July pending an agreement between the league and its players. A financial dispute has delayed the process, with owners asking players to take significant financial cuts.

The players association seemingly stepped away from the table while allowing MLB to impose a season, saying they are ready to play:

MLBPA executive director Tony Clark ended the message with "Tell us when and where," a sentence that has been repeated by multiple players on social media.

The commissioner and owners now have the ability to implement a shortened season but have yet to use that power.

I wouldn't mind seeing all the sports shut it down for awhile.. maybe they would appreciate the fans a little more....also not interested in half ass seasons, with no fans , reduced schedules .. etc. to many different variables to deal with

I think the NFL will start on time, but I can see them shutting down after 3 or 4 weeks cuz of the craziness around around this virus.
